Frequently asked questions
The primary function of engine oils/lubricants is to minimize metal-to-metal contact by reducing friction and wear; as a result, the overall engine performance is improved significantly and the overall fuel consumption is reduced.
Cooling of all heated and moving engine parts.
Protection of mechanical components from wear and corrosion.
Maintaining the cleanliness of an engine and keeping all engine components in order.
The oil in the engine should be changed at least once a year. As suggested by the manufacturer, change intervals depend on:
• the selected engine oil,
• vehicle operating conditions (city or highway conditions),
• climatic conditions.
Oil level in crankcase is checked by dipstick. The oil level should be in the middle of the scale, between the minimum and maximum scale marks of the dipstick. The difference between the minimum and maximum scale marks is approximately 20% of the amount of oil in the crankcase. If the oil level is below the “min”, then it is not enough. Lack of oil leads to increased wear of engine components, since they are insufficiently lubricated and cooled.
It is recommended to check the level regularly after every 1000 km and especially after long trips. In case you notice an increase of oil consumption, immediately contact an authorized service center.
All products of Oil refinery Modriča are created using carefully selected additive packages, combined with high-quality base oils, giving a result of best lubrication and excellent wear protection. Further addition of additives can lead to incompatibilities and to unnecessary damage.
In normal operation, the engine oil is especially important for the smooth operation between the combustion chamber and the engine block. The pressure indicator shows how properly it is working. A sudden pressure may be the result of reducing viscosity of the engine oil, which may be caused by dilution with fuel (problems with an injector or small amount of oil), reduced oil content in the system (due to oil leakage, a large flow of oil or oil pump failure) or wear of mechanical components.
All motor oils are created so that they can meet all the requirements of international classifications. When creating mineral and synthetic motor oils, various additive packages are used, so we do not recommend mixing two different types of oil. Mixing the two oils with the same gradation and specification is not a problem, but the end result cannot be predicted.
No, because the 4-stroke motorcycle engines do not operate under the same conditions as the engines of cars. Lubricants used for motorcycle engines can be used for transmission and the clutch. In the formulas of these oils EP-additives are used (for heavy loads and pressure). Car engine oils also contain detergent additives with a high content of sulphates which may lead engines in motorcycles to deposits on pistons and cams and their failure.
The volatility of motor oil is normal and common. In the laboratory it is checked with the Noack test. Therefore it is very important to periodically check the oil level between services and, if required, – to add oil. In order to meet all the requirements of quality the high-class oil volatility should be ≤ 13% (test Noack). But a simpler way to check the oil consuption is to compare the values specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Usually manufacturers write that the oil consuption “under normal conditions” is 0.2 – 0.5 liters of oil per 1000 km. If oil consumption is more than 1 liter per 1000 km, contact an authorized service center.
The cost of motor oil per year is 1% of the total cost of car maintenance (fuel, tires, registration, maintenance, etc.) and much cheaper than all the other costs. The correct choice of the appropriate engine oil helps to extend service intervals, improves lubrication and thus helps to save money.
